MAMA ALICE IGBE
Made you the voice and conscience
Of a people for so long that when
They gather to think of a centenary
They can't but thank the Maker for you
A centenary gift and presence
Still kicking with the voice of wisdom
Mama you are the Makeba of the Idoma
Generations have witnessed you
And your story and legend, the stuff of myths
Will continue to be passed on through generations
We may not have built monuments in your name
Or celebrated you as we ought and should
But you are in the hall of fame in our memories
Framed in the finest gold and your name
Etched in the finest calligraphy
In our hearts and minds where it matters most
You dwell like an iroko of strength
Our mother and our minder our psalmist
The Maker has kept you for a people so long
They cannot find the words to thank Him
For the evergreen gift of service that He moulded
In your frame and the message He steeled in you
Mama your centenary is our centenary
A 100 years of singing the soul of a people
