Officials During the Raid in Asokoro, Abuja
The FCT Administration (FCTA), through its combined city enforcement team, conducted raids and forced the removal of infamous hotspots for illegal narcotics, environmental violations, and other various problems over the weekend.
The squad invaded the well-known AYA Roundabout and its surroundings in the Asokoro District and evicted unlawful operations like trash, marketplaces, car repair businesses, motor parks, and a market for illegal substances.
The team, which was made up of representatives from the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), also known as the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), and other security personnel, also eliminated environmental annoyances near the Court of Appeal junction by way of the Federal Secretariat, Eagle Square, and Nicon Junction axis on the Shehu Shagari Way.
Olumuji Peter, the Secretary of FCTA Command and Control, gave an explanation of the exercise and said it was a continuance of the administration's commitment to keeping the city safe for all residents.
Olumuji issued a warning that anyone in the city with criminal inclinations should leave or move back to their home country since the city would not be suitable for them due to ongoing enforcement.
Similar to this, Kaka Bello, Deputy Director, Monitoring and Enforcement, AEPB, stated that the goal was to ensure that the city's residents were safe and healthy.
He noted that, “AYA is one of the notorious places where we encounter a lot of challenges whenever we come for such cleaning exercise given the rate of nuisance here, which has been abated, and the illicit drugs-related offences that were apprehended by the NDLEA officers. They are all interwoven, and we are working together with other agencies to make sure that we abate such nuisances. And it is a daily thing, which we will continue to do as the city must be cleaned on a daily basis.”
Deborah Osho, the Deputy Director, Operations, DRTS, said that 11 cars were seized and hauled from illegal parks and mechanic workshops, with seven tricycles being confiscated for route violation. She hailed the exercise as a success.
